The attorney to protect Turkmenistan from MTS claims selected

Defense attorney Miriam Harwood will be representing Turkmenistan’s interests in International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID).

As of today ICSID have five pending lawsuits against Turkmenistan.Among plaintiffs are the Russian mobile communications provider MTS which demands that Turkmenistan compensate for damage of $750 million after the Turkmen side refused to extend the frequency use license, Germany-based Unionmatex Industrieanlagen GmbH asking to pay back at least 32 mln debt plus interest as well as Turkish SECE İnşaat ve Ticaret A.Ş., Lotus Holding Anonim Şirketi and Muhammet Ҫap & Bankrupt Sehil Inşaat Endustri ve Ticaret Ltd.

Belarus-based company “Belgorkhimprom” is also threatening to file a lawsuit against Turkmenistan pertaining to the debt for the construction works to build Garlyk mining and refining facility.
