Correspondents of “Chronicles of Turkmenistan” report that the village of Manyş, located in the mountains in the south-eastward of Ashgabat, has been knocked down.
Some privately-owned houses and household buildings were dismantled last year. Teachers had been warned that the school would also be demolished and had been recommended to look for a new employer. However, the school kept operating. Later, in late February, the school was also bulldozed before the end of the academic year.
In the meantime the village has been completely demolished and the vineyards, where the residents of the village worked, were rooted out.
The residents have been provided with accommodation in apartment blocks in Anau.One 4-bedroom apartment was provided for 3 to 4 families of relatives, who used to reside in one backyard, but in separate houses.
Conflicts and fights break out between numerous family members, who are urged to live under one roof.The authorities, however, prefer to turn a blind eye.
The neighbouring village of Bagabat (formerly, Kalininsk), which was home to a health resort, had been demolished earlier. A new building of the health resort is now under construction there.
The security post keeps vigil at the entrance to Manyş, giving access only to construction workers.
According to informed sources, the residency of one of the President’s sister will be built here. It will be surrounded with orchids hiding the territory from prying eyes.
The village of Manyş is famous for the language spoken by the Anauli tribe who used to reside there. In the 1920-s the language was studied by the renowned turcologist Aleksandr Potseluevsky.
