The Lithuanian Parliament has approved Simonyte as Prime Minister of the country

The Seimas (parliament) of Lithuania approved the candidacy of Ingrida Simonyte for the post of Prime Minister of the Republic proposed by President Gitanas Nausėda. At the plenary meeting, 70 deputies voted for this, 28 were against, 23 abstained. This is stated in a TASS report.

The new office will operate for about three months. The government’s powers will end in October, when the next parliamentary elections will take place. After them, a new cabinet will be formed.

Simonyte noted in the Seimas that in the remaining period the work on the government program in the areas of education, security and energy will have to be completed.

After approval in parliament, the prime minister begins to form a cabinet. Ministerial candidates must be approved by the president. The Cabinet of Ministers of Lithuania resigns its powers to the President who has officially taken office. This happened on July 12 after Nauseda was re-elected for a second term.
