The German company Statista has compiled a rating of the most common languages in the world, the Argumenty i Fakty newspaper writes.
In the first place, as expected, was English - it is spoken by about one and a half billion people, it is official in 40 states and the most popular foreign language to learn.
In second place is Chinese. This language is native to 1.2 billion people on the planet, and it is also one of the most popular to learn.
Third place went to Hindi, which is spoken by more than 600 million people. Hindi is one of the most spoken languages in India.
The next top three most spoken languages are Spanish (native to 550 million), French (over 300 million) and Arabic (275 million).
