The new regional centre of IMF  for capacity development of the Caucasus, Central Asia and Mongolia

The international monetary fund has opened a new regional centre for development of potential of the Caucasus, Central Asia and Mongolia CCAMTAC. In the press release on the IMF site it is noted that this joint venture of Fund, member countries Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan and partners.

Opened virtually before its physical start in Almaty, the Centre is an important step on the way to deepening of participation of the Fund in support of working out of economic policy and institutional building in the region.

CCAMTAC is the newest addition to the global network of IMF now consisting of 17 regional centres of capacity development.After signing of the letter on mutual understanding between operating National bank of Kazakhstan Erbolat Dosaev and the managing director of IMF Kristalina Georgieva on December 14, 2020 the first session of steering committee of CCAMTAC took place on January 28 and approved the centre’s start on February 1, 2021, and also the working program for the first months of operation.

Being based on a complex estimation of priorities of member countries in the field of capacity development, CCAMTAC will receive seven long-term advisers specialising in following areas:

Macroeconomic analysis: macroeconomic bases of financial programming, forecasting and policy analysis.

Fiscal policy: management of public finances, macro fiscal issues, administration of incomes.

Monetary and credit and financial sector: operations of the central bank, financial regulation and supervision.

Macroeconomic statistics: national accounts, prices, statistics of public finances and debt.

The centre will closely co-operate with headquarters of IMF and the regional educational centres, in particular, with joint Viennese institute (JVI), Singapore educational institute (STI) and the China-IMF Capacity Development Centre (CICDC) to maximise a synergy between training, practical technical the help and mutual exchanges.

Kazakhstan as the host country brings a basic contribution in CCAMLR, along with other member countries, partners in development and IMF. Switzerland, Korea, Poland and the Asian Development Bank became the first partners in the development, brought the contribution, and additional payments to the five years’ budget of the centre in the near future are expected.

Generalising vision of CCAMTAC, deputy managing director of IMF Sayeh noted that together we want to create the modern regional centre of capacity development of 21 centuries. Closely co-operating, I am assured that CCAMTAC can satisfy existing and arising requirements and will promote a strong and steady exit from unprecedented crisis which has mentioned all of us.

ORIENT has already informed, that the group of employees of the International Monetary fund made a virtual visit to Turkmenistan from January 18 to January, 28th. At meetings with national experts issues of macroeconomic development of the country and separate branches, made positive impact on dynamics of growth of gross national product were discussed.

It was pointed out that influence of pandemic COVID-19 in Turkmenistan was felt on some directions of foreign economic relations, thus internal manufacture remains stable. As a whole, it was ascertained that the economy of Turkmenistan keeps stability and higher concerning other countries rates of increase of gross national product.
