The OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities held talks in the Mejlis of Turkmenistan

The delegation of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), headed by the High Commissioner on National Minorities (HCNM) Kairat Abdrakhmanov, who arrived in Turkmenistan on a visit, visited the Mejlis today, where he held talks with the head of the national parliament, Dunyagozel Gulmanova, Watan news program reported. During the meeting, the parties discussed issues related to national minorities and their integration into society.As the head of the Mejlis noted, equality and well-being of all citizens of the country is one of the keys to its success in socio-economic development.

Turkmenistan, having ratified the main international conventions, including those in the field of human rights, is taking practical steps to implement their provisions.In this regard, it was emphasized that the Government of Turkmenistan pays great attention to the protection and implementation of the rights of all members of society, which is reflected in the National Human Rights Action Plan for 2021-2025.

The parties also exchanged views on the prospects for building up a mutually beneficial partnership in the humanitarian field, in particular, in the area of science and education.The special importance attached in Turkmenistan to the issues of deep integration of youth into world science, learning foreign languages, which in turn plays a key role in the development of international cooperation, was emphasized.

As part of the stay of the OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities in Turkmenistan, meetings are planned at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a number of ministries and departments, a cultural program, including a visit to the Kunyaurgench State Cultural and Historical Reserve in the Dashoguz velayat.
