On 5 December the head of Turkmenistan’s State Economic Crime Enforcement Agency Mammetkhan Chakyev gave a progress report to President Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov on the results of the work carried out since the launch of the agency and the measures undertaken to combat corruption.
The President ordered that the fight against corruption be in strict compliance with Turkmenistan’s legislation and generally accepted international documents, and focused on competent personnel selection, the state information agency TDH reports.
Let us recall that in mid November “Chronicles of Turkmenistan” reported that deputy head of Dashoguz office of Turkmenistan’s State Economic Crime Enforcement Agency Merdan Potiev had been dismissed from his post.
This government agency had recently been conducting inspections in all organizations and institutions of Turkmenistan. At the same time, the agency staff took advantage of their authority to extort bribes.
