The Presidents of Turkmenistan and Afghanistan discussed the promotion of joint projects

The Heads of Turkmenistan and Afghanistan discussed the implementation of joint infrastructure projects in the course of a telephone conversation on Saturday, November 28.

In particular, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Mohammad Ashraf Ghani focused on promoting the construction of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India TAPI gas pipeline. It was noted that in early 2021, the construction of its Afghan section will begin.

Two more major international projects are the construction of electric power lines and a fiber line from Turkmenistan through Afghanistan to Pakistan. In this context, the parties considered the issues of commissioning a section of a new communication system connecting the Turkmen cities of Ymamnazar and Serkhetabat with the Afghan cities of Akina and Turgundi, respectively.

Two neighboring countries are also jointly building the Akina-Andkhoy railway, which is in the final stage of construction.

Among the transport corridors that have been launched is the Lapis-Lazuli Transit Route, which includes Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey, allowing the export of Afghan goods to the markets of Central Asia, the Caucasus and Europe.

A new mosque soon will be opened in Akina, Afghanistan. Its construction is a gift of the Turkmen people to the Afghan brothers.

Previously it was reported, that Turkmenistan will send another batch of humanitarian aid to Afghanistan in the form of medicines, food, textiles and household goods.
