The textile factory in Ioleten has not been privatized and is still not operational

In 2018 it was announced that the textile factory “Bezeg” located in the city of Ioleten, which had been under jurisdiction of the Ministry of Textile Industry, was privatized.

At that time, under the pretext of the factory restructuring, about 300 employees were made redundant.

However, the factory is still not operational. The inhabitants of the neighbouring houses did not see any employees entering the factory throughout this time. The facility is closed and no works are underway on its territory.

Those who had been made redundant hoped that after the reconstruction and modernization they would be offered jobs again. Since it did not happen, the majority of people have left for Turkey in search of jobs.

One of the former engineering workers explained that no revamping works are being carried out and the facility stands idle because the Minister, who launched the privatization of the manufacturing facility, was dismissed and his replacement did not hand over the factory to privately-owned businesses.

In other words, the former official initiated the privatization process as he had personal financial interests.
