President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is expected to pay a visit to Turkmenistan in the coming months.In this connection the Turkish authorities are exercising pressure on the Turkmen activists criticizing the regime of President Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov on the Internet, the human rights center “Memorial” reports with reference to the activist Dursoltan Taganova.
Dursoltan had spent three months in the deportation centre in Istanbul. In October 2020 after the appeals of human rights defenders she was released and managed to apply for political asylum.
According to the girl, on 14 April 2021 she was summoned to the Migration office for a conversation about her residence permit in Turkey, but without her attorney.
In Istanbul office of the Migration Office Taganova was interviewed by two unidentified men. Apart from asking about her asylum application, her place of residence and her family members, Dursoltan was interviewed about her civic activity and her online publications.
The girl was informed that her activity damage “fragile” relationship between the two countries and threatened that she might face problems with her stay in Turkey unless she stops her activity.
The men said that other activists residing Turkey might be also summoned to the Migration office to be warned, in case “they are instructed to do so”.
Turkmen migrant workers residing abroad launched their activity in the spring of 2020 after the hurricane, which hit Lebap velayat on 27 April, 2020.
