The use of groundwater has caused changes in the tilt of the earth's axis

Large-scale pumping of groundwater, according to scientists from Seoul National University, led to the fact that the Earth tilted to the east by almost 80 centimeters, writes “MIR 24”.

Water reserves on the Earth influence the axis of rotation of the planet, but, as it turned out recently, not only surface, but also underground waters influence this. From 1993 to 2010, about 2150 gigatonnes of groundwater were pumped out of the bowels of the Earth.

The movement of pumped water causes changes in the pole of rotation of the planet by several meters per year, so the pumping and redistribution of groundwater does not affect the change of seasons.

But in the long term, this could become a serious geological problem and have a devastating impact on the climate.
