Theatrical Entourage at the Museum of Fine Arts: Celebrating the Festival

The Museum of Fine Arts has become completely unrecognizable: its spacious halls recreate the atmosphere of the theatre filled with a gamut of emotions, expressive poetic and musical phrases, and melodious sounds of diverse languages...

Timed to coincide with the opening of the Third International Theater Festival, an exhibition brought together theatrical enthusiasts from different countries. The museum specialists made every effort to stimulate the guests’ lively interest and managed to succeed in that perfectly well.

A collection of sculptures of our country’s prominent cultural figures by People’s Artist of Turkmenistan Saragt Babaev is on display in the foyer of the Museum. Its main hall is playing host to a portrait gallery showcasing works by master painters and set design sketches drawn by students of the Academy of Arts for various theater productions.

The festival participants walked through the halls to view the Museum’s permanent collection. For instance, artist and musician Ibragim Erevi dressed in a colorful Afghan national costume was fascinated by Ivan Chirenko’s painting Horsemen’.

People’s Artist of Turkmenistan, Anna Mele, who was standing nearby, responded to the guest’s questions about the painting.Ibragim Erevi could not help but stop by a quintet.

He asked the musician if he could borrow his flute and then played Afghan music, winning applause from his counterparts.Young singers from Kazakhstan sang an old Kazakh song entitled “The White Sail” a cappella in the modern arrangement.

The song is from Zhibek’, a theater production to be presented at the festival.Among those attending the exhibition were guests outfitted in costumes. We just could not walk past a beautiful girl, wearing an ornately decorated medieval-style gown and talking excitedly on her cell phone, without asking her a question: “Who are you?” - I am dressed as the mother of Peri (fairy-like creature) Agayunus from the epic “Gerogly”, the beauty replied. - If the Peri has such a charming mother, what does Agayunus look like herself?!

Not long after that, we met a young man, who was dressed in no less impressive clothes and was also talking on his cell phone. “What character do you represent?” we asked him. - I am dressed as the father of Agayunus from the epic “Gerogly”. - Then, we can assume that you may be now talking with the mother of Agayunus about the whereabouts of your mischievous daughter?

The “father” of Agayunus gave a laugh and answered: “Maybe”...Indeed, everything is possible in the theatrical atmosphere. The theater has blurred the boundaries between the reality and the world where the past and the present, traditions and innovations, folklore, modernity and creative ideas coexist in perfect harmony.

Sincerity, total dedication, enthusiasm, talent and pursuits are key contributors to its development.
