Tokayev Says Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran Railroad Important Transport Artery of North-South Corridor

The North-South international corridor with the Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran railroad being its important transport artery acquires a special significance, the Press Service of the President of Russia cites the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev as saying during the informal CIS summit in St. Petersburg on Monday.

The informal CIS meeting gathered President of Russia Vladimir Putin, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Japarov, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon and President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

In his speech, Tokayev said, "There is a need for new mechanisms and cooperation formats to improve the efficiency of transport and logistics projects in the CIS.”

The Kazakh President added that in order to adapt the organization to modern global realities, the leaders of the countries should improve its potential and strengthen the position of the Commonwealth in the international arena.

The previous informal summit in St. Petersburg was held in October this year.
