Training on a special course on comprehensive gender mainstreaming for civil servants was held in Ashgabat

A series of trainings to conduct a specialized course for government officials on gender mainstreaming was organized by UNDP on November 13-15.

More than 100 representatives of ministries, departments, law enforcement agencies, teachers of universities and institutes, the Office of the Ombudsman, municipalities and other government organizations of the city of Ashgabat and five velayats of Turkmenistan took part in the trainings.

UNDP international expert on gender equality, Ms. Bilyana Maletin, developed and conducted this pilot course within the framework of the three-year UNDP project “Supporting the implementation of the National Action Plan of Turkmenistan in the field of human rights for 2021-2025”, implemented jointly with the Institute of State, Law and Democracy of Turkmenistan.

During the courses, participants gained knowledge about such aspects as gender analysis, gender equality, gender data for Turkmenistan, gender stereotypes and national legislation in the field of gender equality.

Based on the results of the trainings, the participants provided comments and recommendations on the draft course, which will later be digitized and presented to the Government for further adoption as a mandatory online educational course for civil servants.

Integration of the course will contribute to the implementation of the National Action Plan on Human Rights in Turkmenistan for 2021-2025 and the National Action Plan for Gender Equality in Turkmenistan for 2021-2025, as well as the implementation of the UNDP Gender Equality Strategy for 2022-2025.

This initiative was supported by funding from the Canadian government, according to a UNDP press release.
