Trees “explode” in Texas

Witnesses of an unusual phenomenon were residents of a city located north of Dallas, Texas. In the middle of the night they were awakened by an incomprehensible noise, reminiscent of volleys of shots. As it turned out, these shocking sounds were caused by the explosion of trees.

In an interview with local NBC television channel DFW, Princeton, Texas resident Lauren Revere said that during a severe winter storm this week, temperatures dropped so low that the sap inside surrounding trees froze.

As the liquid solidified, it expanded, causing the trees to burst open and emit a gunshot-like pop.The “exploded” trees, in turn, knocked down others, according to ferra.ru.

Texas was one of several states hit by a severe winter storm that brought ice, snow and frost.
