Turkey is to supply 70 million flowers to 22 countries for St. Valentine’s Day

Turkey will deliver a total of 70 mln cut flowers to 22 countries around the world for St. Valentine’s Day. The main markets for cut flowers from Turkey remain the Netherlands, Britain, Germany and Ukraine, Anadolu News Agency reports.

Preparations for the delivery of flowers began on January 25. The main greenhouses for growing flowers are located in Antalya Province. Manufacturers focus on red flowers, mainly carnations.

Flowers in special packaging are delivered to warehouses, from where they are shipped abroad by air. Export deliveries will continue for at least another week.

Ismail Yilmaz, the Chairman of the Ornamental Flowers Exporters Association Board, told Anadolu that the export of flower products has increased since the beginning of this year, as compared to 2020. According to him, flowers amounting to 7 million dollars will be supplied abroad on St.Valentine’s Day alone.

“Last year there was an order for 60 million cut flowers, and revenues totaled 6 million dollars. So the current increase can be called a record”, Yilmaz said.

The Association head noted that the largest market for flowers from Turkey is the Netherlands, which resell some of the Turkish flowers to other countries.
