Turkmen activists hold the third protest in the US this week

On 2 September, 2020 the third protest against the Constitution reform in Turkmenistan was held this week in front of the US headquarters. The protest was organized by Turkmen activists Mukhammet Deuedji, Nardjan Muzapberova and Murad Kurbanov, a representative of the opposition movement Democratic Choice for Turkmenistan.

The previous protests were held on 29 August, 2020 in Houston, Texas and on 1 September, 2020 in front of Turkmenistan’s Embassy in Washington, D.C.

As a day earlier in D.C. the participants talked about the problems residents of Turkmenistan are experiencing and requested that the Turkmen authorities respect human rights, provide jobs and food supplies and abandon the plans to amend the Constitution. The protest lasted a bit over an hour.

The activists are convinced that after this Constitution reform the Berdymukhammedovs might consolidate power in the country.

The participants urged residents of Turkmenistan to hold protests on 14 September.
