Turkmen athletes took part in the closing ceremony of the 2024 Olympics in Paris

Turkmen athletes, together with thousands of athletes from all over the world, took part in the closing ceremony of the XXXIII Summer Olympic Games in Paris. Six representatives of Turkmenistan, competing in four sports - judo, athletics, swimming and weightlifting - completed their performance at the main sporting event of the four-year anniversary.

The closing ceremony was marked by a number of highlights.The Olympic flame was extinguished by athletes representing five continents, as well as refugee team member and IOC head Thomas Bach.

Hollywood star Tom Cruise surprised spectators by descending onto the stadium field from the roof of the arena on a cable and symbolically delivering the Olympic flag to Los Angeles, the city that will host the next Summer Games in 2028.

In weightlifting, Davranbek Hasanbayev took 10th place in the weight category up to 102 kg with a result of 370 kg in the double event. Judoists Serdar Rahimov and Maysa Pardayeva were one step away from the quarterfinals, winning one fight each.

Swimmers Musa Zhalayev and Aynura Primova were unable to show their best results in the 100-meter freestyle and 100-meter backstroke, respectively. Athlete Valentina Meredova did not qualify for the semifinals in the 100-meter race, but improved her personal best of the season (11.95 seconds).

Now the coaching staff of the Turkmen sports federations is faced with the task of analyzing the results of the athletes’ performance at the 2024 Olympics and preparing the team for the next Games, which will be held in 2028 in Los Angeles.
