Turkmen ecologists discuss the fulfilment of Ramsar Convention

Turkmenbashy hosted the meeting on management objectives of Ramsar territory Turkmenbashy Bay.Chairman of Coordination Committee of Ramsar Regional Initiative of the Central Asia, Professor Eldar Rustamov, National Coordinator of Working Group on fulfilment of Ramsar Convention, Deputy Director of the Institute of Deserts, Flora and Fauna juma Saparmuradov, activists of Balkan Department of Turkmen Society of Natural Protection, scientific personnel and inspectors of Hazar State Natural Reserve took part in the event held under the activity of the State Commission for Provision of the Obligations of Turkmenistan followed from the UN environment programmes and conventions.

During the presentation of methodological materials of the Ramsar Regional Initiative for the Central Asia, the activity of Working Group for fulfilment of the Ramsar Convention in Turkmenistan in 2016 -2017 was analysed.

Inclusion of relative wetlands to the Ramsar List, their management, adjustment of the topography and scientific zoning were the main subjects of the discussion.Large attention was paid to ecological awareness of the population.

The practice of Hazar State Natural Reserve, the only reserve in the country nominated to the Ramsar List, was reviewed in interactive format.Positive experience of the management of wetlands will be used in control and protection of other wetlands of Turkmenistan and will support rational use of existing and potential Ramsar wetlands in the country and the Central Asian region.
