Turkmen ecologists take part in the events dedicated to the 35th anniversary of Menzibir Ornithological Association

The birds are the indicators of the environmental condition.Birds lover from many countries observe the Day of Ornithologist on February 19.This date is related to the establishment of Menzibir Ornithological Association (MOA) in 1983 named after M.

A.Menzibir (1855 1933), the world famous scientist who made huge contribution to the development of ornithology and zoogeography.Nowadays, it is not only professional ornithologists but also enthusiasts from different countries expressing the interest in study and protection of the birds who the members of this association.

Turkmen scientists A.K.Rustamov, O.S.Sopiyev and M.B.Amanova were at the origin of the association.The Day of Crane in December, the Day of Birds in April and the Day of Migrating Birds in May are held in our country under the activity of this movement.

Ornithologists of the country with the support of the State Committee on Natural Protection and Land Resources organize the lectures among the hunters and tours with the students of Magtumguly Turkmen State University as well as meetings with MOA veterans.

Cooperation with the ornithologists from Russia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Ukraine is supported and partnership of national scientists with the UK Royal Society for the Protection of Birds is successfully developed.

On the threshold of the Day of Ornithologist and 35th anniversary of Menzibir Ornithological Association, Turkmen specialists took part in All-Russian Ornithological Congress in Tver and in scientific and practical conference “Topical Issues of Birds Protection” in Moscow.

During theme sessions, they told about the work for the protection of rare birds that are listed in the Red Book of Turkmenistan, monitoring of the hibernation of water birds including in Caspian Sea and in the main collector of Altyn Asyr Turkmen Lake (report of Professor E.

A.Rustamov).Perspectives of international cooperation in protection of rare and endangered birds have been discussed at the session of the MOA Central Council in M.V.
