Turkmen Government Delegation Heads For New Delhi and Islamabad

Government delegation of Turkmenistan on December 18-20 will visit India’s capital New Delhi to participate in the foreign ministers’ meeting of the Central Asia-India Dialogue and Pakistan’s capital Islamabad to attend Extraordinary meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on humanitarian situation in Afghanistan.

The Decree on official visits of the Turkmen delegation was signed by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov during the online cabinet meeting on Friday.

Briefing on the preparations for the visits, the Turkmen Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov said Turkmenistan-Pakistan political consultations are also expected to be held in Islamabad.

The upcoming Central Asia-India meeting will also pay special attention to issues related to Afghanistan, according to report.

Informing on the proposal to hold Turkmen-Indian political consultations in New Delhi, Meredov said consultations will focus on the strengthening of political-diplomatic, trade-economic and cultural-humanitarian cooperation between Turkmenistan and India.

Following the briefing, President Berdimuhamedov highlighted that one of the major topics of the upcoming meetings will be the situation in neighboring Afghanistan.The Head of State said Turkmenistan will continue to provide the friendly Afghan people with all possible assistance and support, implement new joint projects that will contribute to sustainable socio-economic development of Afghanistan and the entire region as a whole.

Turkmenistan presently implements joint projects linking Central Asia and South Asia such as Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline, Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan power transmission lines and fiber-optic communication line.
