Turkmen Government Mulls Prevention Measures as Omicron Spreads Worldwide

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on Tuesday hosted a working meeting mainly focused on preventing the importation and spread of the new omicron strain of coronavirus infection.

The meeting was attended by Chary Amanov, the Deputy Chairman of the Government, Secretary of the State Security Council, Deputy Chairman of the State Commission for Emergency Situations, Maksat Hudaykuliyev, the Chairman of the State Customs Service, and Nazar Atagarayev, the Chairman of the State Migration Service.

The agenda included issues related to the global situation with coronavirus infection, the country’s official media reports.

President Berdimuhamedov noted the spread of the Omicron variant of COVID-19 and said “the ways of the infection’s spread from one country to another are known, and that is through the movement of people and goods across state borders".

In this regard, it was decided to hold a meeting to consider measures to be taken upon the arrival of people in Turkmenistan, as well as during the supply of goods, including foodstuffs, the Head of State stated.

The Turkmen President instructed the Vice-Premier Chary Amanov to keep under close control the regular analysis of data regarding food stocks in the country, as well as to provide markets and retail outlets with daily consumable food products.

The Chairman of the State Customs Service Hudaykuliyev was assigned to exercise strict control over the compliance of quality and safety of imported foodstuffs with the established standards and carrying out their sanitization in accordance with the rules adopted by the Extraordinary Commission of Turkmenistan to Combat the Spread of Diseases.

Whilst, the Chairman of the State Migration Service Atagarayev was instructed to ensure the unimpeded movement of trucks with food to the city of Ashgabat through the checkpoints operating along the inter-Velayat highways in accordance with the rules adopted by the Extraordinary Commission of Turkmenistan to Combat the Spread of Diseases.
