Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov met with President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev at the Kuksaroy Residence on Monday in Tashkent.
The leaders discussed a wide range of issues related to the further comprehensive development of traditional Turkmen-Uzbek relations in closed-door talks. The negotiations then continued in an expanded format with the participation of official delegations from both countries.
The leaders reviewed the current state and prospects of bilateral cooperation, as well as key regional and international issues of mutual interest.Special attention was given to strengthening political and diplomatic interaction, including within international and regional organizations, expanding dialogue on sustainable development, organizing joint visits and co-chair committee meetings, developing parliamentary contacts through friendship working groups, and continuing consultations at the level of foreign ministries.
Coordination efforts within the Consultative Meeting of Central Asian Heads of State, activities of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea, regional security, and the restoration of peace and socio-economic development in Afghanistan were also discussed.
President Berdimuhamedov emphasized that all necessary conditions exist to fully utilize the trade potential of the two countries.He proposed holding the next meeting of the Turkmen-Uzbek Business Council and the third interregional forum in 2026, as well as opening Turkmen and Uzbek trade houses in Ashgabat and Tashkent.
The ceremonial opening of the Turkmen-Uzbek cross-border trade center will take place today, which is expected to significantly boost mutual trade.In addition, the President presented concrete initiatives to develop cooperation in transport, energy, agriculture and water management, the chemical industry, culture, science and education, sports, and healthcare.
