Turkmen President Inaugurates New Gas Compressor Station at Malay Field

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on Friday, during his working trip to Lebap velayat, took part in a solemn ceremony of commissioning a new gas compressor station at the Malay field in Charjev etrap, TDH news agency reports.

The new commissioned facility is of great importance for increasing the productivity of wells and for a more complete use of the natural gas reserves of the field, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said during his speech at the ceremony.

The new station consists of two workshops. The first workshop’s task is to fully develop the Malay field. The second workshop is designed for high pressure pumping of gas from Galkynysh and Dovletabat fields into the Malay-Bagtyyarlyk gas pipeline.

This project was implemented by Türkmengaz (Turkmen Gas) State Concern together with the U.K.-based Petro Gas LLP. The gas compressor equipment was supplied by France-based Dresser-Rand S.A.

According to the report, the capacity of each of the units, designed to pump 45 million cubic meters of gas per day, is 32 MW. During the opening ceremony, the Head of State noted that Turkmen specialists took part in the construction of the compressor station, completing more than 80% of all construction and installation works.

The station, capable of pumping up to 30 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year, has the latest equipment and technological solutions. All processes at the compressor station are automated and controlled by computers.

Natural gas has been produced at the Malay field since 1986. The field not only provides natural gas to Lebap velayat, but also supplies energy products for the Turkmenistan-Uzbekistan-Kazakhstan-China transnational gas pipeline via the 188-kilometer Malay-Bagtyyarlyk pipeline.

Next to the Malay field is the Bagtyyarlyk contract area, where on December 14, 2009, an official ceremony of launching the Central Asia-China gas pipeline took place.

As of early January this year, more than 336 billion cubic meters of natural gas had been imported via the pipeline. Turkmenistan provided 85% of the pipeline’s natural gas supplies.

To date, from the fields developed by Türkmengaz SC and CNPC International Turkmenistan, a total of 290 billion cubic meters of natural gas have been delivered to China.
