Turkmen school opened in Astrakhan

Turkmenistan-built school designed to accommodate 190 students was opened in the village of Funtovo in Privolzhsky district of Astrakhan region, Russia on 18 May, 2018.

According to the state information agency TDH, the opening ceremony brought together Governor of Astrakhan region Aleksandr Zhilkin, Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Grigoriy Karasin, Deputy Minister of Education and Science Pavel Zenkovich as well as the official Turkmen delegation headed by Deputy Prime Minister and Turkmenistan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov.

It is reported that the most numerous Turkmen community in Astrakhan region resides in the village of Funtovo.

Together with the school, which is named after the Turkmen classic poet, the opening of the monument to Magtymguly Pyragy was held.

It is emphasized that it has been previously reported that the school would accommodate 350 students and later this number was changed to 240.

The educational establishment was scheduled to be opened in September 2017.
