Turkmen, Uzbek Businesses May Create Joint Transport Company

Turkmen-Uzbek negotiations on the development of cooperation in transport and communications spheres took place online on Thursday. The talks included discussions on organizing meetings of the countries’ business circles involved in international cargo transportation with the aim of establishing links to create a joint transport company.

The meeting was attended by the heads of state departments and agencies involved in transport sector, customs services and other structures of the two countries, the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan (UIET) said in its press release.

The Uzbek side put forward proposals for direct purchases of aviation fuel produced by the Turkmenbashi Complex of Oil Refineries.

The Uzbek officials also suggested to organize maintenance and repair of Turkmen planes at Uzbekistan Airways Technics, and modernization and repair of rolling stock at the wagon repair plant of Uzbekiston Temir Yullari JSC.

The delegations of the two countries also focused on measures to intensify practical implementation of Ashgabat agreement on establishing international transport and communications corridor Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Iran-Oman. The sides also considered prospects of cooperation in joint use of cargo flights by Turkmenistan Airlines OJSC and organization of flights of the Turkmen airlines to Uzbekistan.

The meeting also addressed the issue of tariff preferences for transportation of transit cargo through Uzbekistan.
