Turkmenistan acted as one of the sponsors of the 5th extraordinary session of the UNESCO General Conference

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkmenistan to France, Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan to UNESCO Maksat Charyev represented Turkmenistan at the fifth extraordinary session of the General Conference of UNESCO, which was held from 29 to 30 June in Paris.

According to the nCa edition with reference to the Embassy of Turkmenistan in France, the extraordinary session was convened at the initiative of the Permanent Delegation of Japan and with the support of approximately 150 member states.

Turkmenistan supported and acted as one of the sponsors of the initiative to convene the 5th extraordinary session of the UNESCO General Conference.

This extraordinary session considered the item “Financial matters relating to the return of the United States of America to UNESCO as a Member State”, based on a letter from the United States presented to Member States by the Director-General of UNESCO on 12 June 2023.

The UNESCO General Conference adopted a resolution supporting the return of the United States by July 31 this year. 132 Member States supported this decision.

We remind that the United States withdrew from UNESCO on December 31, 2018 under President Donald Trump.
