Turkmenistan and EU Mull Deepening of Relations

President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov met with President of the European Council Charles Michel in New York on Monday and discussed deepening of bilateral relations between the European Union and Turkmenistan, the official Turkmen media reports.

During the meeting held on the sidelines of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov emphasized that Turkmenistan attaches great importance to strengthening friendly ties and constructive dialogue with the EU, which is expanding every year, covering new areas of interaction.

In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Charles Michel stated that the meeting with Turkmen President discussed the need to intensify EU-Turkmenistan dialogue across all areas and to open the way to deepen bilateral relations in the run up to next year’s EU-Central Asia summit.

The sides highlighted the successful cooperation between Turkmenistan and the EU within the bilateral format and within the framework of the EU -Central Asia Dialogue.

Turkmen President’s visit to New York for UN General Assembly session started on Sunday. On Monday, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov also held bilateral talks with the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, the President of the Republic of Korea Yoon Suk Yeol and the Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO) Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.
