Turkmenistan and the IMF summed up the results of a ten-day round of video meetings

The mission of experts of the International Monetary Fund completed a virtual visit to Turkmenistan, which lasted 10 days.

The results of the negotiations and discussions held during this period were summed up on Thursday at the final video meeting of the Minister of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan Muhammetgeldi Serdarov with the Fund delegation headed by Natalia Tamirisa.

The IMF experts and the heads and employees of a number of ministries and departments of the country discussed the medium-term prospects for economic development and analysis of the economy of Turkmenistan.

It was noted that recently Turkmenistan has significantly intensified cooperation with the International Monetary Fund, as well as with such major international financial institutions as the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the Islamic Development Bank.

One of the current activities of the banking system of Turkmenistan is the state support of small and medium-sized businesses through the provision of preferential loans and sources of external financing to representatives of the private sector of the economy.

The IMF delegation informed the Turkmen authorities of its readiness to support the country’s economic policy and thanked the country’s state authorities for the information provided and the constructive dialogue held during the visit of the Fund’s staff.
