Turkmenistan Builds Up Its Transport, Transit Potential

Mammethan Chakiyev, the General Director of the Agency for Transport and Communications under the Turkmen Cabinet of Ministers, reported to the President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on the ongoing work in the field of transport and logistics during the online cabinet meeting on Friday.

According to Chakiyev’s report, currently, in connection with the accession of Kazakhstan, Qatar and India to the transport and transit corridors Afghanistan-Turkmenistan-Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey (Lapis Lazuli) and Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Iran-Oman, it is planned to transport goods by road and rail by identifying national operators to address existing issues to activate traffic on these routes, organize test cargo flights, ensure uninterrupted cargo traffic.

In order to increase rail container transportation in the China-Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran route, Turkmenistan implements a favorable competitive pricing policy, creating conditions for logistics development.

Planned activities are underway to increase container traffic along the Europe-Caucasus-Asia international transport corridor, as well as Caspian Sea-Black Sea route to access Europe.

Pakistan, Afghanistan, India are very interested in transit freight traffic via Turkmenistan in the direction of Russia, Kazakhstan and European countries, as well as in container cargo transportation along the China-Tajikistan-Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Iran-Turkey route, according to Chakiyev,

In this regard, in the framework of negotiations between transport companies it is planned to use transit opportunities of the Turkmenbashi International Seaport.

The online cabinet meeting also considered other topical issues of the socio-economic development of Turkmenistan.
