Turkmenistan Develops New Wheat Varieties

President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov during his visit to the country’s Mary province on Friday got acquainted with the newly developed awned and awnless varieties of wheat.

Scientist B. Novruzov of the Agricultural Research and Production Center of the Turkmen Agricultural Institute briefed the Head of State on the new grain varieties, the country's official media reports.

The center has been conducting scientific research in relevant areas for many years, the agronomist said, adding that the new varieties are coarse-grained, disease-resistant and high-yielding. The agronomist informed that each hectare of a new variety of awned and awnless wheat, ripening in 200-210 days, can yield 55-60 centners of grain.

The scientist then appealed to President Serdar Berdimuhamedov with a request to name new wheat varieties. The Head of State stated the relevance of naming them Berkarar and Galkynysh, which corresponds to the spirit of today, and wished the scientists-agronomists new successes in their work.

The President of Turkmenistan also visited the sown areas of the daikhan association "Turkmenistan" of the Vekilbazar etrap, got acquainted with the work of a local farmer and talked with an employee of the Agricultural Research and Production Center of the Turkmen Agricultural Institute.
