Turkmenistan, GIZ to Prevent Land Degradation in Amudarya Basin

UNDP Turkmenistan and the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ), held a workshop on land degradation neutrality on Thursday to discuss improving the utilization of land and water resources in the Amudarya basin, Turkmenistan's official media reported.

The participants discussed achieving land degradation neutrality and restoring land and water resources in the river basin.

The workshop is part of a series of events aimed at building capacity to achieve a neutral balance of land degradation.

The concept of Land Degradation Neutral Balance (LDNB) was first introduced to the global dialog by the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) and endorsed by the international community during the UN Rio+20 Conference in 2012.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) will launch the first technical assistance project in Turkmenistan's water sector, the Neytralnyy Turkmenistan newspaper reported on Wednesday.
