Turkmenistan-Iran Rail Cargo Turnover Surges 57%

The rail cargo turnover between Turkmenistan and Iran for the last 11 months of the current Iranian calendar year (March, 2022 - February, 2023) increased by 57 percent compared to the same period of last year, IRNA news agency reports, referring to Gholamhossein Valedi, the Iranian rail official.

Turkmenistan imported 170,000 tons of cargo via rail, registering close to 10% growth compared with the same period of last year. Citrus fruit, cement, chemicals, tiles and food products were the among main goods the country imported via railroad, according to the report.

The export of Turkmen products to Iran via rail amounted to 130,000 tons and included wood, lumber, paper and lentils.

The value of Iran’s total trade with Turkmenistan (excluding crude oil exports) in the first ten months of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21-January 20) increased by 32.64 percent compared to the same period of last year.
