Turkmenistan Joins Harmonized Commodity Description and Coding System

Turkmen Ambassador to the Benelux countries Sapar Palvanov handed over a document on Turkmenistan's accession to the International Convention on the Harmonized Commodity Description and Coding System (HS Convention) to Kunio Mikuriya, Secretary General of the World Customs Organization (WCO), in Brussels, the Turkmen embassy in Belgium reported on Monday.

During the meeting, the sides discussed the expansion of Turkmenistan-WCO cooperation, as well as the country's involvement in the organization's programs, such as a career development program that provides training opportunities for customs employees.

Turkmen Ambassador spoke about Turkmenistan's digitalization efforts, including the launch of a single window system, which not only improves the efficiency of customs procedures but also helps to increase the transparency of customs and export-import operations.

The Secretary General expressed his appreciation for Turkmenistan's efforts to modernize customs procedures and stated the WCO's willingness to give technical aid and support to the country.

Kunio Mikuriya stated that Turkmenistan's admission to the WCO’s HS convention will improve bilateral collaboration.

The WCO is an intergovernmental organization that seeks to improve the efficiency of customs administrations globally. The WCO has 180 members, including Turkmenistan.
