Turkmenistan Modernizes Its Railway Network

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov instructed to study the possibilities of acquiring modern railway equipment abroad that would meet the country's climatic conditions.

The Head of State gave relevant instructions to the Chairman of the Türkmendemirýollary (Turkmen Railways) Agency Azat Atamyradov during a Saturday government meeting on the further development of the country’s transport and communications complex, TDH news agency reports.

During the meeting, Atamyradov reported on the results of the Agency’s work for the past year and plans for the current year.

Last year, the Agency's revenue plan was fulfilled by 118.5% and the cargo turnover plan was implemented by 120.5%, according to the report.

During the period, the Agency reconstructed 245 km of railways, updated 32.7 km of rails, carried out repair works on 90 railway crossings and 22 bridges. The Agency also modernized more than 930 freight and passenger cars, electrified 25 diesel locomotives and repaired the diesel part and traction motors of 25 diesel locomotives.

Following the report and expressing dissatisfaction with the work of the agency, the Turkmen leader focused on the importance of implementing tasks to ensure the operation of railway transport at a high level.

Turkmen President also addressed the head of the Agency with a number of instructions related to activities on the electrification of railways, noted the importance of introducing new technologies, sharing experience and useful innovative developments with foreign partners, which will ensure an inflow of investments into the industry.
