Turkmenistan, Pakistan’s HabibMetro Bank Explore Direct Correspondent Banking Ties

Turkmenistan and Pakistan’s HabibMetro Bank have discussed establishing direct correspondent banking relations, a step aimed at strengthening financial connectivity between the two countries.

The issue was addressed during a meeting between Turkmenistan’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Atajan Movlamov, and a bank delegation led by Fatima Zehra, head of the bank’s international missions unit, according to the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Pakistan.

The sides focused on expanding cooperation in the financial and banking sector, including improving settlement mechanisms and supporting joint projects.

Direct interbank ties could help create more favorable conditions for business activity and stimulate investment flows, the embassy said.

Both sides expressed interest in continuing dialogue and maintaining regular contacts on key areas of cooperation.

HabibMetro Bank is one of Pakistan’s leading commercial banks and part of Switzerland’s Habib Bank AG Zurich group. Established in 1992, the bank specializes in trade finance and retail banking and operates a network of more than 550 branches.
