Turkmenistan Proposes Germany to Develop Bilateral Energy Cooperation Plan

Turkmenistan is proposing Germany to develop a plan for bilateral energy cooperation, the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov announced during a meeting with Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action of Germany Robert Habeck in Berlin on Friday, the official Turkmen media reports.

Government agencies and large companies of both countries are expected to be involved in the development of the plan.

In a meeting, energy sphere was named among the key vectors, where opportunities are opening up for German companies to participate in projects to modernize existing and build new facilities of oil-gas and gas chemical complexes in Turkmenistan, to develop oil and gas resources on the Caspian shelf, as well as to build the Trans-Caspian gas pipeline, according to the report.

The talks placed special emphasis on the opportunities for joint efforts in the field of hydrogen energy and reduction of methane emissions.

At the meeting, the sides additionally noted a good potential for cooperation in the field of ecology. In this regard, Berdimuhamedov reiterated his country's interest in acquiring green technologies, in obtaining German competencies in the issue of rational use of water and land resources, methodology of accounting the carbon footprint of production and taking measures to reduce it.

The Halk Maslakhaty Chairman also invited German experts to actively participate in the development of national strategies of Turkmenistan: "Greenhouse Gas Inventory System", as well as "Monitoring, verification and assessment of CO2 emissions".

Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on Friday also took part in a meeting of Central Asian Leaders with Federal President of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier and the meeting of Central Asian Leaders with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

The Halk Maslakhaty Chairman additionally participated in a meeting of the heads of delegations of Central Asian countries and the German Committee on Eastern European Economic Relations, and held bilateral talks with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
