Turkmenistan, Russia’s Gazprom Consider Expanding Cooperation on Turkmen Gas Purchases

President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and the CEO of the Russian energy giant Gazprom Alexei Miller in a meeting in Ashgabat on Monday discussed issues relating to the purchase of Turkmen gas by the Russian holding under the existing contract and expansion of cooperation in this area on a long-term basis.

President Berdimuhamedov expressed Turkmenistan's commitment to active development of mutually beneficial relations with foreign partners, including cooperation in such strategic areas as fuel and energy complex, the official Turkmen media reports.

Serdar Berdimuhamedov stated that Turkmenistan is always open to proposals of its long-standing business partners and is ready to support new promising formats of cooperation. It was also stressed that the Russian holding would continue to unswervingly follow its commitments.

The sides also exchanged views on the development of green energy and practical use of environmentally friendly renewable energy sources.

Gazprom representative office has been working in the country since 2003.
