Turkmenistan’s Eastern Province Increases Food Production

Food industry enterprises in Turkmenistan’s eastern province of Lebap are increasing their production, the country’s official media reported on Wednesday, providing statistical data of production volumes for the first half of 2022.

For instance, since the beginning of the year, the enterprises have produced 6,5 thousand tons of meat, 28,3 tons of milk and dairy products, 92,3 tons of bread and bakery products and 63,8 tons of flour, much more than during the same period last year, according to the data.

Producers of agricultural products this year also increased their product supply to retail outlets. During the January-June period of this year, they produced 44.5 thousand tons of vegetables, excluding potatoes, 73.9 thousand tons of potatoes, 14.2 thousand tons of fruits and berries, much more than during the same period last year.

The state media said this increase has led to a decrease in prices. Prices for apples have decreased by 40,75% as compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, for tomatoes by 32,99%, for cucumbers by 25% and for potatoes by 16,07%.

Lebap province, located in the eastern Turkmenistan, borders Afghanistan and Uzbekistan. The province’s central city is Turkmenabat.
