Turkmenistan temporarily denies entry for Mangistau residents due to tightened security measures at the border

The media outlet lada.kz with reference to the Department of Mangistau region State Revenues Department reports that from 6 to 16 June Turkmenistan closed visa-free entry to the country for residents of Kazakhstan’s Mangistau region.

The border was closed in connection with tightened security measures at the border. The reasons behind the security measures have not been reported.

The visa-free entry on the territory of Turkmenistan for residents of Mangistau province was lifted during the visits of President Berdymukhammedov to Balkan velayat.

Kazakhstan nationals, who permanently reside in Mangistau province, can enter, exit and stay without visas on the territory of Balkan velayat of Turkmenistan for the period of up to 5 days. The place of residence of Kazakhstan’s nationals is determined based on the residence registration stamped in IDs (passports).
