Turkmenistan to Ink New Contract on Gas Supplies to Uzbekistan

Batyr Amanov, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, overseeing the country's fuel and energy complex, and Energy Minister of Uzbekistan Jurabek Mirzamahmudov held a meeting in Ashgabat on Thursday, where they reached an agreement on signing a new contract on supplying Turkmen natural gas to Uzbekistan.

The talks focused on further development of relations in the fuel-energy sector, according to the official Turkmen media.

The sides also exchanged views on measures taken to implement previously reached agreements and contracts in the energy sector.

The meeting paid special attention to the development of exports of energy resources of Turkmenistan, which has significant hydrocarbon reserves, to foreign markets, primarily to neighboring countries.

The Uzbek delegation, led by the country's Minister of Energy, also held talks with the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan in charge of construction and industrial complex. The sides emphasized the importance of implementing joint large-scale infrastructure projects, including the construction of energy corridors.
