Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Ahmed Gurbanov led the Turkmen delegation at the fifth meeting of special representatives of the Central Asian states and the European Union for Afghanistan, which was held on February 14 in Bishkek, reports the press service of the Turkmen Foreign Ministry.

The meeting was organized to exchange views on the current situation in Afghanistan in the socio-economic, humanitarian and security spheres. The participants noted the successful holding of the previous, fourth meeting of this format, which was held in Ashgabat in May last year.

The Bishkek meeting was the next step in coordinating the efforts of regional states and the international community to provide assistance to Afghanistan. A meeting is planned in the near future in Doha to discuss the prospects for the socio-economic development of this country.

On the sidelines of the meeting, the Turkmen delegation also held separate meetings with the EU Special Representative for Central Asia Teri Hakala and the Special Representative for Afghanistan Thomas Niklasson.
