Turkmenistan, UN mull situation in Afghanistan

Turkmen officials have met with Director of the Political Department of the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) Scott Seward Smith in Ashgabat, the Turkmen Foreign Ministry said in a message.

The sides drew attention to the importance of regional cooperation and practical steps to implement large-scale projects in energy, transport and communications sectors in Afghanistan.

Methods of cooperation in security, ensuring stability and peaceful settlement of conflicts in Afghanistan were considered during the meeting.

Turkmenistan has a long border with Afghanistan. Afghanistan is involved in a number of interregional projects, including the construction of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline.
