Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia Mull Creation of New Transport Corridor

Representatives of Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Russia discussed the prospects of creating an international multimodal corridor during a meeting held in Astrakhan on Tuesday. Multimodal transport corridor will originate in Kyrgyzstan and pass through the territories of Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, and then through the international port of Turkmenbashi will reach Russia, according to the Turkmenistan’s official media.

The delegation of Turkmenistan was headed by deputy head of the agency Türkmendeňizderýaollary (Turkmen Maritime and River Transport) Seyitguly Bayseidov.

During the meeting, the sides discussed the issues of establishing regular cargo transportation in the Caspian Sea. The parties also noted that transportation of cargo by sea will have a positive impact on the economic development of all the countries participating in the project.

Seyitguly Bayseidov expressed Turkmenistan's willingness to cooperate and, in particular, to offer preferential rates at the International Sea Port of Turkmenbashi and involve the Turkmen shipyards in increasing the volume of freight along the Astrakhan-Turkmenbashi route.

Last year, Turkmenistan and Russia's Astrakhan region agreed to build a logistics center of Turkmenistan in the port of Olya. A plan for the port construction is currently being developed.
