The Turkmen Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights reports that two opposition activists from Turkmenistan were detained in Turkey on 18 October, 2021.

A 47 year old Akhmed Rakhmanov was sent to the deportation centre in Antalya.According to human rights defenders, he is a moderator of the chat forum of the opposition movement “Democratic Choice for Turkmenistan” and has repeatedly made videos for Youtube and TikTok criticizing the Turkmen regime and gave comment to Radio “Azatlyk” (the Turkmen Service of Radio Liberty).

It is reported that before being placed in a deportation centre Rakhmanov visited the Migration Office in order to extend his residence permit.

At about 5 p.m.on the same date a 35 year old Kamil Abulov was taken from his apartment in the district of Çekmeköy by Istanbul police officers.

In the morning of 19 October, 2021 he was placed in the deportation centre. The police officers informed Abulova’s spouse that her husband was on the list of 28 individuals requested to be detained by the Turkmen government.

Abulov was one of those detained by the Turkish police for the attempt to hold an unauthorized rally in front of the Consulate of Turkmenistan on 1 August, 2021.

According to the Turkmen Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights, the special services exerted pressure on Turkmenistan-based relatives of activists residing abroad.

Tazegul Ovezova, a 51 year old mother of an opposition blogger and a participant of many protests Azat Khayitbayev, was summoned to the National Security Ministry for questioning. The woman said she was not able to make it because she is recovering from heart attack she recently had.

On 22 September, 2021 the NSM officers pressured Ovezova to make her son stop his opposition activities. Khayitbayev is among those wanted by Turkmenistan’s Consulate.

Another activist based in Turke said that a few days ago the Turkmen police officers came to the apartment where he had been registered for six months when he was a child to carry an inspection. The post Two Turkmen activists detained in Turkey and sent to deportation facilities first appeared on Chronicles of Turkmenistan.
