UNDP in Turkmenistan will continue close cooperation on the development of the Lebap velayat

During her first two-day visit to the Lebap velayat, UNDP Resident Representative in Turkmenistan Narine Sahakyan met with the hyakim of the Lebap velayat Shohrat Amangeldiyev and other representatives of the regional administration.

During the meeting, issues related to the successful implementation of the project “Conservation and sustainable management of land resources and ecosystems of high natural value in the Aral Sea Basin for multiple benefits” (Aral project), funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and implemented by UNDP and the Ministry of Agriculture, were discussed. economy and environmental protection of Turkmenistan.

Also, during the visit, the UNDP Resident Representative in Turkmenistan visited several pilot sites of the UNDP project “Supporting climate-resilient economic livelihoods of agricultural communities in the dry regions of Turkmenistan”, which ended in early 2022.

She also visited local greenhouses and orchards, where innovative and modern approaches to farming are applied. N. Sahakyan met with farmers - members of the group on economically sustainable adaptation planning and participants of the UNDP project, to learn about the effectiveness of the completed project and the impact of its results on the life of the local community.
