UNDP Provides Turkmenistan's Health Ministry With Medical Waste Disposal Equipment

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), under a project to combat infectious diseases, delivered modern medical waste disposal units to the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan, totaling 1.01 million euros, UNDP said Thursday.

Seven Bertin Sterilwave 100 units for solid waste and two Medister 160 units for liquid waste were installed at central and regional institutions and centers for the prevention of infectious diseases.

The equipment is designed to treat infected and potentially hazardous waste directly at healthcare facilities. Waste is now processed on-site and converted into safe material that can be disposed of as regular refuse.

Similar units were previously provided to the Sanitary and Epidemiological Surveillance Service and the Blood Center in Ashgabat.
