UNFPA Praises Turkmenistan’s Initiatives to Advance Gender Equality

UNFPA praised Turkmenistan’s efforts to promote dialogue on gender equality, Chinwe Ogbonna, the agency’s director for Turkmenistan and Kyrgyzstan, said during a meeting with Turkmen Ambassador Sapar Palvanov, the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Belgium reported Wednesday.

The sides discussed the implementation of the current country program and the new five-year cooperation cycle agreed between Turkmenistan and the UN Population Fund.

The meeting highlighted the active engagement of Turkmen government institutions in implementing all program components and the positive results achieved on the ground. Ogbonna said the progress reflects consistent state policy and the effectiveness of Turkmenistan’s partnership with UNFPA.

She also emphasized the importance of the upcoming conference in Avaza on the role of women in modern society, scheduled for Dec. 10. She confirmed her participation and said the event would serve as a significant platform for sharing experience and strengthening regional cooperation.

UNFPA, the UN Population Fund, is a specialized UN agency focused on demographic development, reproductive health, women’s rights and gender equality.
