Violin case from the “Titanic” is looking for a new owner

A rare artifact from the “Titanic” will be auctioned in the UK. The violin case of “Titanic” bandleader Wallace Hartley is expected to fetch between 100 to 120 thousand pounds sterling. This was reported by “MIR 24” with reference to Telegraph.

The leather case containing the violin that Hartley played in the last moments before the sinking of the ship was found strapped to his body. After the tragedy, it was given to the musician's fiancee, Maria Robinson. She later donated the instrument to the British branch of the “Salvation Army”.

In the 1940s, a “Salvation Army” member gave the violin to his student by separating it from its case. The violin was considered lost for almost a hundred years until it was rediscovered in 2006. The instrument's authenticity was confirmed after seven years of research, and in 2013 it was sold at auction for 1,5 million USD.

The case was in a private collection all this time.
