WHO Holds Seminar on Ship Sanitation Inspection Training

The Country Office of the World Health Organization (WHO) in Turkmenistan, in collaboration with the WHO European Regional Office, conducted a training course on ship sanitation inspection and issuance of ship sanitation certificates in Ashgabat, as reported in organization’s Monday press release.

Representatives from the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan, the Turkmenbashi International Seaport, the State Veterinary Service, the State Quarantine Service, and other competent specialists actively participated in the course.

This event is part of the WHO project aimed at strengthening the national capacity within the framework for action "One Health" to improve the quality of healthcare in Central Asia.

The goal of the course is to enhance public health standards at the Turkmenbashi International Seaport and on Turkmen ships.

The framework for action, which serves as a long-term plan and investment concept, involves the collaboration of various sectors for the effective implementation of the "One Health" approach. The program highlights three key areas: combating zoonotic diseases, preventing antimicrobial resistance, and ensuring food safety.

According to the statement, points of entry such as airports, seaports, and land transport hubs play a crucial role in preventing, detecting, and responding to public health threats that may arise from international travel and trade.
